April Favorites!

April 25th, 2017.

There’s only a few more days left this month, so I decided it would be fun to write about my favorites in the month of April. 🙂

Lets start off with music. I am obsessed right now with Ed Sheeran’s new album, “Divide”. I love this ginger. He is so talented, and I love the Irish influence that you hear in his music in the new album. It makes me want to pack a suitcase and get on the next flight to Ireland. My favorite songs on the album are, “Galway Girl” & “Castle on the Hill”. This album relates a lot back to his childhood, growing up and what is really close to his heart. So on my Spotify right now, Divide is on repeat. Also, right now I love the song “Issues” by Julia Michaels. I just love it, can’t tell you why. An oldie but a goodie, and I don’t know what this says about me but I can’t stop listening to “Pony” by Ginuwine. I just really want to watch Magic Mike XXL but can’t bring myself to pay 14.99 to rent it on iTunes but let’s be real, I will probably give in and rent it. One more song I am listening to on repeat is, “Everybody” by my boy Logic. If you haven’t seen him live, you have to. He’s GREAT.

Fooooood. I have been ADDICTED to guacamole, specifically southwest guacamole this month. It’s been ridiculous, but #sorrynotsorry. I love my guac. Today, me and Connor tried a new restaurant and fairly new to Saint Augustine, I think. We had brunch at The Blue Hen CafĂ©, located in the neighborhood Lincolnville in Saint Augustine, Florida.  Connor had a breakfast burrito which he raved about, and I was basic and had a chicken biscuit. It was super good, served with peach butter. Their menu is online, but some of the dishes they served were, Fried Green Tomatoes Tacos, Pulled Pork Cuban Sandwich which to me sounds very eclectic, maybe it’s not but I was impressed. Besides the food, I loved the restaurant, the dĂ©cor, the atmosphere. It had hens obviously everywhere, paintings, little salt shakers and doo-dads. The waitresses wore cute polka dotted, yellow and old timey aprons which for some reason I really thought was adorable. Food, the service and the prices were great. Definitely a favorite for this month. Another restaurant that I always rave about to new people I meet that are visiting and want to go somewhere to eat and ask my for my recommendation is, Prohibition Kitchen! I’ve been a total of maybe three times but I have been impressed and satisfied every time. The atmosphere, from the lighting, to the feel of the Prohibition times, you feel like you have been taken a back a few decades,  the layout of the restaurant, the service in my experience has been phenomenal and the food is outstanding. If you haven’t been, go check out Prohibition Kitchen in downtown Saint Augustine on St. George Street.

Shows. Okay, I am super excited about the new series I’ve started this month. I was introduced through a friend, and now I am obsessed. BROAD CITY. broad-city-1-550x275[1].png

One of the funniest shows on television, it comes on Comedy Central but I am binge watching through Hulu right now. If you haven’t heard about this comedic powerhouse of a show, let me tell  you about it. Starring as themselves, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson are two twenty-somethings living in New York City trying to make it through hilarious debacles and adventures they find themselves in. It’s vulgar at times but wonderfully comedically timed, sooo smart and witty and fun. Ilana and Abbi make me LOL until I cry. They are independent, intelligent, resourceful and eccentric characters. It’s not a show I would watch with your younger siblings or grandma, they do touch on perhaps taboo topics that shouldn’t be taboo in 2017 but I digress, or maybe not mainstream ideals but that’s one of the reasons it’s one of my favorite shows in April and probably of all time. If you are wanting a comparison, I would compare it to a feminine, girl power inspired Workaholics. The comedy is very similar. You have to have that type of sense of humor. So, if you are interested in checking out Broad City, if you ask nicely, I might give you my Hulu password 😉 I have one more show to recommend and I guess

April is the month of girl power because my next recommendation is Girlboss, which is also loosely based on a true story.

girlboss.jpg

It’s on Netflix, I started a few nights ago when I couldn’t sleep. The show is about a girl named Sophia, played by Britt Robertson. The show is set back in 2006 in San Francisco, California. I am only on episode three but Girlboss is another show where I feel like I’ve never watched anything like it before, it’s almost refreshing in some sense. Sophia isn’t your typical 23 year old girl. She is sassy, independent, impulsive, brash, has a crazy cool sense of style and almost annoying but at the same time you love her and you’re rooting for her because she’s so relatable. She has no idea where she’s going with her life, except when she has an epiphany after finding a really cool find at a local thrift store. Girlboss is on Netflix right now, so I definitely recommend this series to you because it’s definitely one of my April faves 🙂

On to my next April favorites, clothing wise… I’ve recently fallen in love with rompers. Rompers are so fun and make a great Spring outfit. You can look as casual as you want, but also you can dress them up a little if you want. My two rompers I’ve bought this month have come from Target, which has a wide variety of rompers if you’re in the market and Rue 21. Which have been both affordably priced. So yeah, I’m stoked and can’t wait to romp around them on my cruise. And, of course this goes for anything not just clothes but if a unicorn is on it, which most of you know, I have to have it!!! I love a cute unicorn 🙂

Not many people know this about me but I LOVE podcasts. I prefer to listen to a podcast over music usually if I’m driving. I listen to podcasts driving or if I’m home lounging around. My favorite podcasts right now in April are “I Don’t Get It”, and “Insanely Chill with Cody Ko”.  If I had enough people that would listen, I would even start my own podcast. I love me a good podcast, what can I say?!

  • “I Don’t Get It” is Ashley Iaconetti’s podcast that she talks about things she just doesn’t get it with her sister, Lauren. They talk about pop culture, what they don’t understand about boys and dating which when I listen I feel like I’m listening to my closest friends because they are so relatable and hilarious. Oh, and Ashley is known Ashley I. from Chris Soule’s season of the Bachelor and she’s also starred on a few seasons of Bachelor in Paradise, one season her co-host Lauren joined her in paradise. I honestly feel like if I knew them in person, we would instantly become best friends. They are great. Definitely my favorite podcast in April. Check them out on iTunes!
  • “Insanely Chill with Cody Ko”. Cody Ko was super popular on Vine when it was around and now he’s well known on YouTube. I love his YouTube videos, he’s very naturally funny and sarcastic, which I love. So yeah, he has a podcast on SoundCloud where he talks about random topics and he’s guaranteed to make you laugh. He is also another person where I would just love to hang out with and talk about things that piss us off or share stories. He’s that friend I feel like you could just rant and vent to and he would be down for it. He’s insanely chill 😉

On to the last category of my April favorites is beauty.

I got my hair did yall!!! My girl Amber at London Looks Hair Design, located on Saint Augustine Beach, Florida did an amazing balyage that I envisioned and she did it for me. If you want to see pictures of my new hair, feel free to check out my Instagram @jeriberry93 and if you want to see pictures of Amber’s work, go follow her Instagram @hairbyamberjenner  // She’s amazing!

My mom came home a few weeks ago with new shampoo and conditioner. It’s called “Maui Moisture”. They have a wide variety for all hair types. This is what I’ve been using and it’s amazing. You can purchase it at Publix, Target, and any local beauty supply store.

So, those are my favorites for April. April has been a great month so far and it’s just going to get better. I leave for my vacation on the 28th, so stay tuned in a couple weeks for some fun posts all about my vacay! Thank you so much for reading and let me know if you check out or try any of my April favorites.

(None of these products are sponsored, I just genuinely love everything I have talked about in this post.)

Have a great rest of your April! ❀

Getting ready for a cruise 101 *Bon Voyage Bitches*!

Getting ready for your first cruise? Get ready for a lifetime of a new addiction. 🙂 In today’s post, I’m going to share some tips and maybe some life hacks on to be prepared for your first cruise and so you can have an unforgettable vacation full of memories!

jeri grand turk.jpg

Me wasted away (more like tipsy) at Margaritaville in Grand Turk in 2014 🙂

Okay, so you’ve booked your first cruise! YAY! Maybe you booked a 3 day cruise because you were unsure about your sea legs, or maybe you went all out and booked a 7 day cruise. Either way, you’re going to set sail on the time of your life 🙂

Here are a few basic tips to remember.

  1. You are there to let loose and have fun! Don’t worry about back home. Enjoy yourself while you can because time flies on cruise time, especially when you’re having fun. Cherish the moments, even the small ones.
  2.   Do everything! Go check out the comedy shows (The Love & Marriage Show is always a hoot, it’s my favorite) Go to every dinner, go to karaoke, go to trivia…. don’t just hang out in your cabin! You’re going to meet so many fun people!

3.  How do I know when certain activities are taking place? Well, if you are on a Carnival ship, they have every morning a pamphlet called the “Fun Times”. Refer to that when you want to plan your day out, especially on Sea Days. Or don’t plan your day out, sometimes just falling into something fun is awesome. After 8 cruises, I skim the Fun Times but don’t necessarily memorize what’s happening every day.

4. OH! How did could I forget to say this one?! Always always keep your Sail and Sign card they give you on your person at all times when you leave the room. That’s your key to get into your room, it’s your way of paying for everything and it’s proof you are a passenger, so when you get off at Port, they can scan it and see your picture that they take in Check In, and when it’s time to get back on, they can scan it and give you a look and send you on your merry way! 🙂

5. One more tip before I move on to tips for packing. PLEASE be nice to the staff on the cruise ships. They work so hard and always with a smile, and in addition they are away from their families for at least six months out of the year.  They work over 12 hours a day non stop. And usually they are cross-trained so after bartending for 7 hours, they go back for a quick rest and go start another shift at a different place on the boat. They work endlessly and seamlessly to make sure you have a great cruise. So, please treat them with respect and try to remember their names. It’ll go along way for you and them, I promise you.

So, everyone dreads packing but I LOVE packing. I don’t know why, but I just do.

My first tip, don’t procrastinate. Go through your closet and see what you have. Make a list of what you need at least 2 weeks before sailing. You’re going to remember last minute little odds and ends things you’re going to need to pack.

I’m an over packer and admittedly I go a little crazy when it comes to packing but this is how I justify packing. For example: On a 7 day cruise, you’re going to be busy. From the moment you wake up, to whenever you hit your face on the pillow at the end of the night.

  1. You’re going to need swim wear or lounge wear. I recommend at least two pairs of bathing suits. Who likes getting back into cold and wet suits? Not this girl!!
  2. So, you’re going to need comfortable clothes when you’re hanging out at the bar, trivia, bingo or whatever it is. Pack atleast 7 outfits for mid day adventures. I am serious! I don’t want to be repeat outfits, I don’t know about you 😉 What if you get a little messy drinking your margaritas and spill something? Party fouls happen, people.
  3. Okay, it’s dinner time. You want to dress nicer, you can still be casual but you want to maybe dress up a little bit more than normal. And in addition, there’s formal nights. People wear their BEST. Some people think it’s their Victoria Secret’s fashion show and come to show everyone up, or wear their prom dresses. The men look GOOOOD those nights, ladies 😉 So bring at least two formal outfits. Again, there maybe a wardrobe malfunction or you splurged at the dessert bar earlier and you want options. You feel me?

4. Okay, this may be excessive but in Port Days, when you’re in Mexico or Jamaica, wherever your cruise takes you, you’re going to be sporting your cute little romper or t-shirt that screams “hey, I’m on vacation, I’m in my cute graphic tee”. Its going to be HOT, believe me. Ever been to Mexico in June? I don’t recommend it unless you are submerged in water for long periods of time with a cool drink. So, I recommend for however many Port days you have, you bring double the clothes with you. When I get back to the ship after adventuring off the boat, I am going to want to change. I just am. So yes, I am saying if you have 3-4 stops on a cruise, bring 6-8 additional outfits. I AM SORRY I KNOW THIS IS CRAZY, but my formula adds up for me. I like to feel fresh.

5. Last but not least, after dinner. Okay you don’t have to change but after dinner if you are of legal age, and like to party.. It’s time to turn UP. LOL. I usually change into something a little more casual, maybe a cute top and leggings, shorts or a dress. You’re going to probably be dancing and drinking and don’t want to feel stiff in your formal dinner wear. So again, what you’re packing for dinner or night time attire, I’m gonna tell you to double that number. And yes, I can usually fit it all into one suitcase. Summer-y clothes are lighter and thinner! Cant forget shoes, by the way. You will need your comfy Target flip flops, and some shoes for evening wear. And if you have an excursion planned on your itinerary, it may suggest closed toe shoes. Bring them!

Things you never think of bringing!

A wristlet, you’re going to need your ID, Sail & Sign card & maybe some chopstick and you’re not going to want to lose those.

Over the door shoe organizer! Yes, they do have places to store your clothes but I think it’s just a little bit more convenient and leaves you more room for clothes and other stuff.

Your actual luggage, you have to print tags before you go on your cruise so your luggage will be brought to your room. And after the cruise, you’re gonna with be the 2,000+ people at the luggage corral trying to find your luggage, but guess what! Everyone has the same black roller suitcase or red suitcase. Get a piece of thread or colorful piece of ribbon so you can tell your suitcase apart from the others 😉

I also recommend packing a carry on. A backpack preferably that zips up. I put my toiletries that are in a makeup bag (I’ll get to the toiletries in probably a part two) and I put my passport, my important cruise documents, my wallet, an outfit. Side note: Sometimes your luggage doesn’t always arrive promptly to your cabin. If that happens, you will have a change of clothes for dinner or if you’ve been traveling and want to change into something fresh, there you go. Another reason why I recommend a backpack is I take the backpack with me off the ship when we arrive in to the Ports. I need to carry my money, S&S card, camera, sunscreen, water, bathing suit, etc and if you buy any souvenirs you can pack them in there so you have less to carry.

Okay, so that’s been a lot of information thrown at you if you haven’t cruised before. So, if anyone is interested, I can write a part two. I can tell you what to buy from the travel section from Target or CVS that you wouldn’t necessarily think of! Items that will also help with seasickness or a terrible hangover from the night before.

If you are reading this, hopefully we are sailing together soon or we will sail together one day in the future. Once you cruise, you’re always going to be planning another one. Mine is coming up in less than two weeks and it’s my 9th cruise.

HAPPY SAILING! Have fun and be safe. 🙂 Let me know if you want a part two.

Jeri 🙂

Anxiety, can you not?!

Hello, its me again. 🙂 So, I’ve decided to write about this and this is about as real as it gets. I am going to write transparently in hopes I can somehow help someone or if you’re reading this you can relate in some way and not feel a lone.

Because with anxiety you feel like you are completely alone at times. No one can help you. Let me start off by saying from the time I can remember, all the way from elementary school I have dealt with anxiety. Except, until a few years ago did I know it was anxiety. Growing up, we all have to deal with our problems. Growing up is hard, but when my body was going through “flight or fight mode” I just thought I was getting sick to my stomach and needed to go home from school. I couldn’t reason with myself. I guess you could say throughout my life at times I have been a worry wart. I worry about things I can’t control or worry about things before they even come to life, and I’ve been working on it. I’ve been working on not giving a shit, basically. Like anyone else, I have had rough times in my life, and my anxiety has got the best of me in the past. I remember having my first real panic attack sitting in a college classroom, my subconscious thoughts started to consume me. The teacher was talking but it sounded like on “The Peanuts”, the teacher who just makes noise and doesn’t actually talk and I couldn’t focus. I was having tunnel vision, I felt like the room was closing in on me and I genuinely thought I was going to pass out on the desk and in the middle of her lecture, I finally got the courage to run out of the classroom. Almost immediately when I got outside and into fresh air, I felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders and I felt free. After that, I went back for one exam and ended up just quitting school. That was when my anxiety was at it’s worst, and I told my Mom about what happened when I got back home and she suggested I go talk to someone.

Which I did, I only went for one session but I gained so much clarity.

The psychologist really broke down how I was feeling and understood. She taught me ways to cope with my anxiety and made me feel like I could tackle anxiety head on. Which if you are reading this and you deal with anxiety like myself. Here it is. You have to take anxiety by the horns of the monster. BREATHE. Sit down and breathe. Justify, and look inside yourself and reason with yourself. Talk yourself through what’s bothering you. The feeling of hopelessness, claustrophobia and being alone will subside. It honestly feels like you’re going to die in that moment, or throw up. And I honestly use to have a HUGE irrational fear of throwing up. And the psychologist really just put it out there and I wish I could say it as eloquently as she did but she basically said, who cares if you throw up? No one is going to judge you, everyone at some point throws up. It’s not the end of the world and it is okay.

Some days I have anxiety and more days then not, I don’t have anxiety, but yesterday at work I had one. And the reason why I had an anxiety attack is so silly but that’s anxiety for you, you can’t really give a reason for it. It’s just there sometimes. A ticking time clock. And when I had my anxiety attack came on during my shift yesterday, I couldn’t talk myself through it. I just couldn’t be present. And I had to sit upstairs in my managers office, drink some water and just breathe. I honestly felt like a failure in that moment. It was busy at work and I felt like my world was falling apart and I couldn’t be productive downstairs doing my job. I felt like I was letting a lot of people down but I wasn’t. But, I am human. and YOU are human. That’s another thing about anxiety, it will make you feel things and think things that aren’t true, like I thought my co workers were going to be mad or think I was faking it, but I can sit here and say that’s not true.

Another tip for dealing with anxiety.

Exercise! Read a book, watch funny YouTube videos. Find a creative outlet. Talk to someone, just vent and get what’s bothering you out and so hopefully it just can be done with! Consume your thoughts into something else positive. Or exercise the anxiety out of you. Run it out, or sweat it out! I am trying to use my own tip actually.

Honestly, I am going to deal with my anxiety my entire life off an on. Especially when I’m going through a stressful time in my life, but I know my mind is being irrational and that I will come out okay, it’s just all about how you react in the moment. Isn’t that how a lot of things in life work? Things are going to happen but it is up to you how you react. Obviously, I am not a doctor. Your girl doesn’t even have a college degree (but hey, I am working on it, okay!?) but I want to know if you are reading this, and you need someone to talk to that can relate, don’t hesitate to talk to me. If you don’t know how to contact me, click on my tab on how to contact me or DM me on Instagram @jeriberry93

So, that’s anxiety for me in a nutshell. I hope someone gained something from this if they needed to and I know this was kind of a bummer, not super cheerful post but sometimes stuff like this needs to be written. I want to shoutout a blog that has a two part post about her anxiety and dealings with it, and I really enjoy her writing so here’s the link:

NEXT POST IS GONNA BE A FUN ONE, SO STAY TUNED! 🙂

Keep calm and breathe,

Two posts in one night, getting a little crazy here…. :)

Two posts in one night, I would say sorry for double posting but I’m not 😉

So, I don’t know if it’s just me but I LOVE when guys are weird, quirky and/or flawed. I think about this a lot. Especially when I’ll be swiping on app, and stop and say to someone, “WOAH look at this guy! He’s SOO cute. And my friends will be like “what, are you serious” Or just think I’m totally crazy because the guy is not attractive in the “traditional sense”. A Hollister model with perfect hair and washboard abs is great, don’t get me wrong but I like people who have character. I like the guy with the half smile, big nose, that’s a GINGER, ( love me a cute ginger not gonna lie), that’s super tall or short, has a “Dad Bod” or just has a quirky awkward nerdy vibe. I’ll most likely dig it, if you are different or stand out, that’s really cool to me. I like people who own it too! But, honestly if you’re a cool person, I’m going to like you as a person regardless. Cool people are cool people!

I also find it attractive when a guy has his own thing going and he has his focus on a certain hobby or even like his schooling and he’s not worried about what so and so is doing. He’s doing HIM. I think when anyone has a passion that’s so attractive. They have found their niche and they are honing in on it, or just having fun with it. That says a lot about where they are going in their life and if they are going to be successful or not.

STORY TIME::::

This is one of the craziest things that has ever happened to me. When I use to be a bagger, or “Front Service Clerk” at Publix, I had to wear my hair in a pony tail because it was long. I had just got off work and I still had it up and had to run into the 7-Eleven. I went up to the clerk and handed him my items so I could pay and he stopped in his tracks and said “OOOH GIRL”!! He took me off guard, I was like “omg what?” By his reaction I thought I was bleeding or had a wardrobe malfunction. And he goes “YOUR EARS!!” And I said, “yeah…?” Yes I have some wonky big ears. I own them *snaps fingers* He goes “GIRL, don’t get mad when I say this but your ears are big! AND they are so SEXY!!!” I was immediately a little concerned but flattered of course. I was like “oh thanks… lol” He’s like “YES GIRL, I have always had a thing for big ears and you are so cute! I am sorry but I just had to tell you”.  We had that little interaction and I got the hell out of that 7-Eleven lol and immediately called some of my friends to reenact that encounter. Not gonna lie it was a weird compliment but it made me smile and made me feel a little less self conscious about my ears from that time on.

Moral of the story? OWN WHAT YOU GOT! Love yourself! Because someone more than likely is going to love what you hate most about yourself.

Thanks for reading again.

Something’s gotta give!

Hey guys! How are you doing?

I have been feeling so bleh lately. 2017 has not been the best year for me health wise to be honest. It just seems there’s something right after the other. The other night I woke up so sick to my stomach and it was to the point of it almost being unbearable, I decided I needed to change something. And it’s the way I eat.

What you eat really effects you physically but not only mentally. So, I decided after having another attack (not the first time) I am no longer going to put anything in my body that is not healthy. Yes, I am giving up Chick-fil-A. Yesterday was day one of eating healthier. I had a salad, and chips and guacamole which isn’t anything out of the usual. Then for dinner on my break at work I had Greek yogurt and a fruit cup. So, I think I did well. Night time for me is when I really tend to eat bad, because I’m tired from work and just wanna eat something fast and get to bed so I think fruit is going to become my BFF. & I am going to pick a time where I am not going eat after a certain point. I am really excited about this lifestyle change, I am going to get back into the gym as well. I was doing so well at the end of 2016 but then having a virus for over 5 weeks set me back and then I just got lazy. I also downloaded an app, that tracks my calories for me and has a bunch of cool features, so I am really excited to learn the app and use it. I want to treat myself, I need to be the best version of myself. I haven’t honestly felt “great” in a long time, I’ve been settling for “okay” and I’m done with it. It’s ironic that my body has been shutting down on me and I haven’t been the healthiest lately, but I feel more confident in my skin than I have ever before! So, when I get into better shape and start drinking more water and working out, I can’t imagine how I’m going to feel. So this is me declaring, a new me, a new Jeri is coming your way!

If anyone has any tips on snacks, meal prep, fun ways to work out or if you want to be my gym buddy, hit a sista UP! I’m in an expressive mood tonight, so I might get a little crazy and write another post after this one.

Thanks to everyone who has been checking out my blog, means a lot to me!

Effort is sexy, or is it just me?

Effort is DEAD. In my experiences lately on the dating apps or just dating in general, effort is a foreign concept.

I’ll start talking to a seemingly awesome dude, he seems like to be a real catch. For example, this guy was super fun to talk to and he liked to travel like me! He wrote on his bio on his Bumble profile that he had been to all these exotic places. So to me, it’s obvious he’s not lazy and he doesn’t mind adventuring out. Okay cool!  And then it’s revealed that I live in Saint Augustine and he probably lives 30-1 hour away. That’s not far to me. I drive 45 minutes once a week to go to the mall…. my shopping addiction is another story but to me that’s not a bad drive. So, immediately the thought of him driving to take me out on a date is a deal breaker. I even said “So, you’ll go across the world but you won’t drive 45 minutes to meet me?”

His reply? “With all the gas money I save, yep”. I am immediately turned off. But, of course he says if I’m ever on his side of town to let him know. Not happening, bud. Ladies, I might be traditional in this sense but I believe the man should come to the woman on the first date. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that’s appropriate. So, I had to write this guy off, #sorrynotsorry!

Effort is sexy. I talked to a lovely couple today at work, and her husband surprised her with concert tickets for her favorite band. I thought that was so sweet. And my uncle and aunt when they first started dating lived about 4-5 hours away from each other. He would drive to her EVERY weekend. He told me there’s no excuse, the man should work hard to impress the woman and it shouldn’t even be a thought in the man’s mind. Of course, I wouldn’t mind trading off weekends but in that instance he was explaining to me, If a guy likes you- he will go to great lengths to make sure you are his girl.

I just think in general effort is important, not just in the dating world. If someone comes to visit me at work, or texts me when they think about something that reminds them of me, that means the world to me. So, that’s what I’m looking for in a relationship, effort. You don’t have to drive 5 hours to see me but plan a picnic for us, think of cool things for us to do. “Netflix and chill” is not effort. Actually planning and taking the time to figure out something we both like goes a long way in my book.

Effort is lost. And I hope one day that I can be proven wrong. Until then, I won’t settle for less, you feel me? 🙂

This post might have been a little rant-y but I have some really fun posts coming up. & THANK YOU EVERYONE for all the encouraging words so far! Stay tuned for my next post, it might be sooner than you think 🙂

Thanks for reading!
